Flicker Film Society: Weekly Blog 9/01/13

Hello everyone! School has finally begun. And with that comes the return of club activities. We are happy to say that our first meeting will take place Monday Sept. 9th at 8:00 P.M. in Deloach 114. Hopefully you’re all able to attend so you can meet our officers.

Now to move onto the UNCW Involvement Carnival. We decided to use our Flicker ImageCommunity Group to find some help for a quick short we decided to do and it came through for us.

A new member this year, Carson Roach-Howell volunteered himself to help out however he could. We offered him the position of sound op. He was more than happy to follow through and he did an excellent job. It was so cool to see a brand new member jump in with no fear.

STAGE Company’s Logo

Liz Bernardo, the president of STAGE Theater Company, volunteered to write a script for us! She wrote something that fit the bill quite well. Planning to shoot it at the UNCW Involvement carnival, we needed a film that we could shoot in under 2 hours and that would take advantage of large crowds. We wanted to allow people to see Flicker in action, and also experience working with lots of extras in the background.

It wasn’t quite the same as having real extras because we had no control over them. They would often stop beside the camera instead of crossing in front. They didn’t understand that people crossing in the foreground was exactly what we wanted.

The Mrymidon Warrior

As often happens on no budget guerrilla film shoots, one of our actors bailed. But you gotta have friends! Lydia Manning, the president of Myrmidon Warriors Improv Club, came to our rescue, she left her table to play the part and she did so quite well.

Look for the film on Flicker’s Facebook, Mid-September!

And that wraps up the blog for this week. If you’re on Facebook make sure to join our community group page. Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter. Hope to see you all next week.
